5 Tips to Get the Most Out Of a GoPro

The GoPro has transformed the way we capture the world around us. This action camera allows us to capture glimpses of places that are otherwise almost impossible for standard cameras to reach. From road trips, hill stations, adventure sports, or capturing that amazing sunset on the beach, there are many things you can capture with a GoPro on your holiday.

Small (fits in the palm of your hand), lightweight, waterproof (up to 30 meters!) and easy to use (touchscreen), the GoPro offers high definition video quality (it shoots in 4k!) that can be treasured for a lifetime.

If you want to capture your next holiday in HD, here are some 5 tips and tricks to get the most out of your GoPro.

P.s. In case you haven’t figured it our yet, the GoPro is mainly meant for video footage or to use when it’s not practical to take a larger camera (like underwater or on a biking trip). In our experience, the DSLR does take better pictures but the GoPro is the way to go for stunning video footage.

Get Creative with Mounts

GoPro offers different camera mounts for different needs. The selfie stick is the most used mount for many travelers. However, for activities where you need both of your hands – such as river rafting, cycling, hiking or mountain climbing – there are other body mounts that you can fix it on your car, bike, helmet or wear it on your head, chest or wrist.

This high definition camera also comes with a waterproof case – so don’t worry about taking it to the pool or the beach.

Select the Right Mode

Like with any camera, modes and settings are critical to getting great footage. The most important is the definition of the video. The GoPro has a huge spectrum from 4K (4 times HD!) all the way down to 720p. Remember the higher the definition, the lower the battery life. The GoPro also allows you to choose between a wide angle and narrow field of view.

Use the burst mode to get a large number of pictures in a single click or time lapse to capture a long drive or sunset and then compress it into a quick couple of minutes.

Sync it to your Phone

With GoPro app, you can control your camera remotely via a smartphone. It syncs via wi-fi / Bluetooth and is really easy to do.

The main advantage of the app is that you can use it to operate the GoPro when it’s out of reach (clamped to your car or on your helmet). You can change settings, take photos, start / stop video, view your pictures, and much more. However, be careful since it drains the battery quicker.

Practice, Practice, Practice

For most of us, the GoPro is a new tool and is very different from the cameras we’ve been using all our lives. Therefore, we suggest you get a good feel of the camera first. Play around with the various modes, mounts and settings and try out different angles to better understand how to get the most out of this amazing camera.
Remember, there are no rules with the Go Pro. Just be creative and have fun!

Carry Extra Batteries

While the GoPro is one of the best action cameras out on the market right, the battery life is bit of a concern. In 1080p, the battery is good for 40-60 mins of footage.

To avoid disappointments always make sure you carry a battery backpac with you. Use lower modes and avoid pairing it with your smart phone during unwanted situations. Switch off your GoPro, when not in use.

The LCD screen at the back of Hero 4 Silver GoPro is also a battery drain. Make sure you turn the screen off if you want to enjoy more battery life.
